Job Description
About Poppins Payroll:
Poppins Payroll is a simple, compliant, and delightful payroll service built specifically for household employers. We make it easy for families to pay their employees legally, and we do it with heart. With a 4.9/5 rating on Google and an NPS that rivals the best consumer brands, we’re proud of the love we’ve earned from customers. We’re PE backed, profitable, and setting up for strong growth.
About The Role:
This role is well-suited for a finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional environments and wants their work to have a direct and measurable impact on company performance and long-term equity value creation.
Reporting directly to the VP Finance, you will help build, maintain, and uplevel Poppins’ financial and operating models, alongside our LTV, CAC unit economics frameworks. These models are central to how we evaluate growth investments, guide marketing spend, inform product strategy, and support executive decision-making.
You will work closely with the VP Finance and Accounting team, and cross-functional partners across Product, Marketing, and Operations to translate data into clear insights, pressure-test assumptions, and support high-impact initiatives across the business, eg: testing new pricing models. In parallel, you will contribute to the continued development of our accounting and treasury operations, helping streamline data flows, improve close and forecasting processes, and raise the bar for what a modern finance function looks like as we scale.
What You’ll Do:
Build and manage our operating model: You will support the development and ongoing improvement of our unit economics and LTV models to help determine spend frameworks, evaluate the ROI of products, features, and business strategies, and to guide data-driven decision-making across Poppins.
Build and manage our financial model: You will help build, maintain, and update our financial model to support business strategy and key decision-making. This includes working closely with our Accounting team and directly with QuickBooks Online to ensure the general ledger aligns with our financial models and that monthly close processes run smoothly. You will also support the consolidation and maintenance of company-level forecasts across the P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet.
Partner closely with Marketing: Our LTV model goes hand in hand with marketing spend. In this role, you will build strong relationships with the Marketing team and develop deeper analytics around CAC, payback, cohort performance, and marginal returns on spend to help inform growth strategy.
Data, Accounting and Treasury Operations: Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close by preparing key schedules, analyses, and reconciliations, and assisting with executive and Board reporting. Partner closely with Accounting to ensure alignment across financial models, operational reporting, and the general ledger. Maintain data integrity through regular reconciliations between QuickBooks and operational systems such as billing and CRM, and help implement fixes to prevent recurrence. Work with our engineering team to support treasury and cash management by building cash balances, payroll-related cash flows, and liquidity dashboards to ensure accurate forecasting and timely execution.
Ad hoc projects and data analysis; such as pricing: Support high-impact ad hoc analyses and special projects, including pricing evaluations, new product analysis, and strategic scenario modeling.
Creating exec level and board level material: Regularly help craft executive- and Board-level presentations for monthly reporting, quarter-end updates, and Board meetings, summarizing complex data into clear, decision-oriented insights to support leadership decision-making.
To thrive in this role, you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field
- 1-4 years of experience in a rigorous, analytical role such as Investment Banking, PE, VC, Corporate FP&A, Transaction Services, Consulting, or a high-growth startup finance role
- Extremely advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, with a proven ability to build complex, dynamic, and well-structured financial models from scratch, including integrated forecasting, scenario analysis, and sensitivity modeling
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement analysis, with comfort working directly with general ledger data and supporting financial close activities
- Comfort working with data and basic SQL (or willingness to learn), including how to use AI-assisted tools to query, validate, and analyze datasets
- Highly analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to synthesize complex operational data into clear financial insights
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Strong desire to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility in a complex, scaling organization
Nice to have:
- Working knowledge of SQL beyond the basics
- Basic Python
- Experience using analytics or modeling tools such as Hex
Location:
